At the beginning of the XVIII century, traveler and author Ernst Christoph Barchewitz was enjoying the view from his porch near the sea shore, when he suddenly came to observe the social behavior of a pair of dugongs during his stay on Letti Islands (Maluku, Indonesia) as a commanding officer.
